INTRO TO IMPROV:

Come shake off the week, laugh, play and grow your confidence in a safe, supportive environment. Through a series of games and exercises, Intro to Improv Comedy, teaches participants how to think on their feet, work with teammates and make up scenes on the spot. Each week we will play with concepts such as acceptance, trust, support, spontaneity and others in order to build a creative foundation for more fun on stage and in everyday life. Participants will leave this class with a basic knowledge of improvisation as a comedic art form, more confidence, new connections and an enhanced perspective on their own creativity.

Instructor Bio:

Kristina Smarz is an artist/educator living in the Boston area. She received her BA in English and Theatre from Boston College and has been performing, teaching or directing Theatre and Improv in some capacity for more than 20 years. An alumni of ImprovBoston, ImprovAsylum, The Majestic Theater and Williamstown Theater Festival, Kristina has also trained in numerous master classes and festival workshops including the NeoFuturists, NorthCoast and Second City and has had the pleasure of learning from esteemed artists such as Joe Bill, Susan Messing and Charna Halpern. Kristina works with students of all ability levels and has worked with everyone from young children, to elderly, to performers with disabilities, to professionals and those reluctantly forced to attend corporate trainings.

Archer Lining up Shot

Experience the thrill of traditional recurve archery, as seen in the Olympics. Participants will learn the fundamentals of the shot process and test their skills by competing in a series of unique challenges and archery games designed to improve accuracy. This course will be led by certified USA Archery and National Field Archery Association (NFAA) instructors. Our ‘learn by playing’ philosophy enables students to enjoy the excitement of shooting while practicing skills and fundamental aspects of the shot process embedded into the course. Adults welcome too!

Seascapes in watercolors

Come explore the beauty of seascapes in watercolor with a focus on New England seashores. Learn light reflections, skies, sandy beaches, clouds, rocks, lighthouses, and more. Adam will demonstrate one or two aspects per class, building on what you learn in previous classes. All levels from beginners to advanced are welcome, so join us and learn how to create the beauty that is the seascape!

Forests, Trees, and Paths in watercolor

The Japanese call it 'shinrin-yoku’ or ‘forest bathing’. In this class we will be bringing the forest inside with watercolor painting. Come learn how to create all the various elements that create a peaceful forest. Also, learn how easy it is to build your own forest on paper with watercolors. Adam gives demonstrations in every class, showing how to create foliage, sunlight through the leaves, and other techniques. All levels of experience are welcome, so join us and lose yourself among the trees.

PUPPY KINDERGARTEN

Looking to get your puppy off to a great start? This six week group class for puppies under five months of age on the first day of class is a life preparation class designed to teach puppy guardians how to address everyday situations now so as to prevent behavior problems later. Learn what to do and how to respond to puppy nipping, jumping, inability to be left alone, fearfulness, etc. Please bring your puppy with his or her dinner and treats as well as proof of vaccinations to the first class. DOG OBEDIENCE 1

Looking to improve your dog's manners? In this six week group class for dogs over five months of age, you will learn how to solve the challenges you have at home and out and about. Your dog will learn to respond to your direction rather than jump on visitors; walk at your side; come when called and more. You will learn to read dog body language to better advocate for your dog, other dogs and people in social settings. Please bring your dog with his or her dinner and treats as well as proof of vaccinations to the first class. This is not a class for reactive or aggressive dogs. Intermediate Game Play

Tai Chi

Yang Style Tai Chi for Beginners

Meditation in motion. Great for balance, stress release and reducing joint pain. Slow moves help you coordinate your upper & lower body. We will focus on the health benefits, but applications will be explained in the class to help you better understand the depth of the movements.

Xing Yi

Xing Yi is famous for inside body training and strengthening your inside body. Characterized by aggressive, seemingly linear and rotation movements and explosive power that’s most often applied from a short range with quick advance and turning steps. A practitioner of Xing Yi uses coordinated movements to generate bursts of power intended to overwhelm the opponent, simultaneously attacking and defending. We are also able to do it in a soft/relaxed way for internal breathing and health benefits if you are more interested in the health way.

Our Instructor Huan Zhang has 40 plus years of martial arts experience. He is the 6th Generation of Yang Style Tai Chi and 12th Generation of Chen Style Tai Chi. He has been interviewed by The Chronicle, WCVB & also NECN. Published many martial arts articles on major magazines from both China and America. He is also the Chief Exercise designer for a NIH granted Joint Pain Study for elderly at University of Massachusetts, Boston. As the director of the Culture Promotion Committee for the The World Fighting Martial Arts Federation (WFMAF), he helps to promote Martial Arts Worldwide. He had lectures on Tai Chi and other topics at Harvard University, MIT, Northeastern University, Brandeis University, State University of New York at New Paltz, UMass Boston and Amherst and his own school, Huan’s Tai Chi in Cambridge, MA


USTA Adult Social Tennis League (21+)

Our Social Tennis League offers the opportunity for adults ages 21 and up throughout New England to meet new people through the game of tennis. This league is a great way to improve your skills or get back into tennis in a fun, social environment.

The first week of each season is a fun hit around to get some practice in and meet the other players. Everyone will then be assigned to co-ed teams and the following weeks will be doubles matches where players are assigned a 1hr match. The final week concludes with playoffs where the winning team is awarded prizes!

Our Recreational League is for low to mid-level players (2.5-3.5 NTRP) and our Intermediate League is for higher-level players (3.5-4.0 NTRP). If you are new to the league, please start with the Recreational League unless you played college tennis.

Each player who registers for the USTA Social Tennis League must fill out the team placement form prior to the start of the league. This form helps us to place you on a team based on your playing level, availability and teammate requests.

Led by a USTA-approved coach, participants will have fun and get great exercise while developing the skills to serve, rally and play tennis. The program is perfect for first-time and beginner players, as well as returning novice players. All players in their first session receive and keep a new tennis racquet!
