Policies & Procedures

The Belmont Police Department is committed to transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement in service to our community.

Over the next few months, BPD will be publishing applicable internal policies to promote open communication and trust with the Town of Belmont. This initiative supports our goal of becoming a fully accredited police department.

Each policy has been carefully drafted by members of the Belmont Police Department and reviewed both internally and by representatives of the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission (MPAC). These reviews ensure that our policies align with:

  • Current case law
  • Community standards and input
  • Law enforcement best practices
  • MPAC accreditation standards

While our policies are designed to guide officers in most situations, we recognize that not every circumstance encountered in the field can be anticipated. Therefore, all members of the Belmont Police Department are expected to exercise sound judgment, professionalism, and appropriate discretion at all times.

This effort reflects our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, service, and transparency in partnership with the community we proudly serve.
